I?ll let the June 2012 Conde Nast Traveler tell you about this great deal to the El Conquistador Hotel, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, in Puerto Rico. I?ll just add that The Deal Mommy can get it for you at almost half off what the ?experts? say you should pay!
Kids Ages 4?8
El Conquistador Resort, Fajardo, Puerto Rico
Less than an hour?s drive from San Juan?s airport, this recently renovated 984-room resort is all cheerful hues and the latest in-room gadgets. But what really matters to the early-elementary-school crowd is Camp Coqui, an all-day recreation program with everything from scavenger hunts to face painting. A night camp, from 6 p.m. to midnight during school vacation weeks, shows ?dive-in? movies (best viewed from one of the hotel?s seven pools), and the colossal Coqui Water Park has speed slides and a tubing river that will entertain older kids (adults are also welcome). When hunger strikes, there?s the Oasis Bar & Grill with burgers for all as well as views of all the pool activity (787-863-1000; doubles from $279).
For adults only While the kids are busy at Camp Coqui, take an hour-long boat ride to the pristine beaches of Vieques. The nearby island is a nature lover?s wonderland, where you can snorkel or take a mountain bike tour. Book through Vieques Adventures (bike tours from $95).
$949 gets you five nights at the El Conquistador Resort, a Waldorf Astoria Resort Fajardo, Puerto Rico, in a partial Ocean View room with Balcony including breakfast for 4 each day, and more importantly, ALL Taxes and Fees! Taxes and resort fees add up to over 25% of the room rate at this resort. CondeNast listed the price as ?from $279!? Best of all, the package is good till Jan 2013!
This is a Luxury Hotel?the name ?Waldorf Astoria? says it all. You seriously have to see all of the amenities to understand why this a buy. Sometimes you see hotels at close to this rate in PR (although they rarely include Ocean Views, breakfast and NEVER taxes and fees), but they?re smack dab in the middle of when you don?t want to be there. The exact same package the first week of November was $1994 on their web site. I just got a ?Hot Deal? email from Cheap Carribean mentioning this same hotel, but only dates in May, and five nights was $1378 with no breakfast!
If you?re were thinking Caribbean next Winter or late fall this is a real deal. I?d avoid Late July-Sept due to Hurricane Season. If you?re wondering about air tickets, Expedia is quoting $306RT from Washington to San Juan on Delta right now.
To get it, here?s what you do: First, Accept my invitation to Family Getaway. Once you have your invite, you?ll see $100 in your account. To find the hotel, just search ?El Conquistador? and it will pop right up. They have both auctions and buy it now, I?d recommend the auction because in the months I?ve been browsing the site, I can tell you the first bid usualy wins.
