The Texas House has passed new restrictions on when, how and where women may get an abortion, setting up a potential repeat of a Senate showdown that derailed the measure last month.
Lawmakers debated for more than 10 hours Tuesday, before voting on the Republicans' signature legislation. They approved the bill mainly along party lines.
A final, formal vote Wednesday resulted in the bill's passage by a 96-49 margin.
The measure now goes to the Senate. A Senate committee will consider the measure on Thursday, with the full Senate likely to vote early next week.
Last month, an 11th-hour filibuster by Senate Democrats halted an identical bill's passage as time expired on a special session.?
The bill would require doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals, only allow abortions in surgical centers, dictate when abortion pills are taken and ban abortions after 20 weeks.
Gov. Rick Perry and top Republican leaders have made passing the bill their signature legislation going into the 2014 elections.
